Save the Women’s Service: Strong Start, But Women’s Service Still at Risk
We have been seeing encouraging early progress in our urgent campaign to save the Women’s Service, with around £2,800 raised in just three weeks.
Our urgent appeal, which aims to raise £60,000 to sustain the service for the next 10 months, has gathered pace thanks to a wave of community support and growing media attention.
A significant boost came from tattoo studio Self Love Club and Beauty, who hosted a dedicated fundraising event and raised an incredible £1,000 towards the campaign total.
We have also gained momentum driven by recent media coverage, including a powerful segment on Go Radio.
Michelle, a Women’s Service Participant, spoke candidly about the challenges she faced and how the Women’s Service helped her rebuild her confidence and regain stability. Her story highlighted the importance of having a safe, supportive space during times of crisis and the life-changing difference compassionate, tailored support can make.
She was joined by Yvonne, Wellbeing Support worker, who provided perspective on the realities of supporting women in need.
Together, their voices painted a clear picture: this service is not optional. It is a lifeline.
In addition to Go Radio, the campaign has also received coverage across multiple major platforms, including Clyde 1, That’s TV Glasgow, Glasgow Times, and Glasgow Live. This increased visibility is helping to shine a spotlight on both the urgent need for the service and the funding gap that now threatens its future.
The Women’s Service supports individuals affected by gender-based violence at a time when demand is rising sharply. Recent figures show:
Domestic abuse has increased by 41%
Rape has increased by 41%
Sexual assault has increased by 28%
Behind these statistics are real people in crisis many of whom rely on Murray’s Initiative’s Women’s Service as a safe and trusted place to turn.
Without immediate funding, the service faces closure before new funding streams become available in 2027.
While the progress so far is promising, the reality is clear: there is still a long way to go.
Every donation, no matter the size, will directly contribute to keeping the service open and ensuring women across Glasgow and surrounding areas continue to have access to vital, life-saving support.
